Governing by Network

The stories on this page highlight examples of current strategies for managing government in a networked age. As explored in Professor Goldsmith’s book, Governing by Network, governments must now transform from providing centralized control over public programs to facilitating services through networks of nongovernmental entities. The collaboration of government, the private sector and social enterprise is imperative. Public-private partnerships, managed competition and cross-sector collaboration guide this objective as practitioners must continue to reshape their thinking in order to find innovative accountability, service and performance solutions.
