In September 2007, the Ash Institute created its first Student Advisory Group.
Student members met periodically throughout the year to share their passion for social justice and democratic participation with the Harvard Kennedy School community. Membership provided students with opportunities for leadership, networking, and recognition as well as for deeper engagement with fellow students and with Ash Institute people and resources. The student members of the 2007-2008 Student Advisory Group were Cecilia Barja Chamas, Mason Fellow '08; Tina Doerffer, MC-MPA '08; Zulfiquar Haider, Mason '08; Nicole Kekeh, Mason Fellow '08; Dambudzo Muzenda, MPP '09; and Wafa Saad, Mason Fellow '08.
Student Advisory Group activities included
- Enriching members’ HKS experience while adding value to Ash Institute initiatives
- Planning and implementing a series of student-led seminars
- Contributing experience and talents to Ash Institute’s knowledge base
- Making personal connections with Ash Institute staff and representatives from the Global Network
- Attending, promoting, and participating in existing Ash programs and receptions
