René Aubry emigrated from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the United States, when he was seven years old. In 1988, while a senior at St. Paul's School, he initiated an exchange program that enabled him to spend a term in Johannesburg, South Africa, an experience which he considered 'life-changing.' Upon his return, he matriculated at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. Aubry received a B.A. in Political Science from Columbia University in NY, and later earned J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Columbia, as well. Previously, Aubry founded Ciel Ventures, an online learning portal, and advised several new ventures that were in the startup phase. In 1995, Aubry served as a Consultant to the President of the Provisional Electoral Council, on the regional and national elections in Haiti. In that capacity, he touched on all parts of the electoral process, traveling to every region of the country to deliver ballots, meet with party officials and candidates, register voters, and help develop logistics, strategic, and security plans. While at HKS, Aubry will focus on microfinance and envisions working on development and political issues, in Haiti, and elsewhere, in the future. |
